May was an eventful month for our team as we travelled across the country to meet the communities we serve. Here are a few

We started the month with our inaugural Everything Devops Meetup with a full house at our Mountain View HQ with special guests: Swarna Podila from Cloud Foundry Foundation, Dr Michael Maximilien from IBM, and Peter Cho our VP of Product at LogDNA.

    Open Infrastructure Summit

OpenStack’s newly renamed summit, Open Infrastructure Summit, took place in scenic Colorado this year. The light snow outside did not keep the over 2,000 attendees away from this home of open development. Jae Kim, Solutions Engineer at LogDNA, presented on “Scaling Elasticsearch on Kubernetes” in the expo hall and his session can be found on OpenStack’s site here. Jae shared the challenges our own team faced and provided configuration tips to increase index template performance (Hint: change translog.durability to async).

    DockerCon

DockerCon 2019 presented various product announcements and customer guest speakers. Among the speakers is Liberty Mutual, who presented a demo by R.O.S.I.E., a robot built using Docker. The recent years’ shift in favor of Kubernetes for cloud native computing has not stolen all of Docker’s thunder as they focus on making container-based development consumable by enterprise. An interesting community based effort presented during the conference is the announcement of the Docker Foundation, a philanthropic organization that focuses on enabling education opportunities. A partnership with CodePath.org will kick-start this effort.

    Red Hat Summit

The history-rich city of Boston welcomed our team for Red Hat Summit 2019. On conference floor attendees were able to play games like corn husk, learn from various demo stages, and even see innovation in action through interactive stations. While the conference was filled with lots of news from Red Hat, some notable mentions include: Red Hat and Microsoft’s fuel of hybrid cloud development with Azure Red Hat OpenShift, Red Hat Smart Management bringing management-as-a-service to enterprise, and Deutsche Bank powering its Fabric application platform with open hybrid cloud technologies from Red Hat.

    ChefConf

LogDNA returns back to the great city of Seattle, this time for ChefConf 2019! The DevOps community gathered to learn, collaborate and network on topics ranging from automation across cloud and hybrid environments, to leveraging InSpec to detect and correct anomalies in production. The excitement continued with the ChefConf Hack Day following the event. This provides participants the opportunity to place their newly learned skills into practice.

DevOps Days Toronto was a great way to end a busy month of events in beside Toronto office in the beautiful Evergreen Brickworks Building. There were a lot of great speakers like Dominica DeGrandis on Making Connections Visible - we enjoyed the lightening talks format and the doodles!
