AI SRE Agent Slack Integration: Ask AURA About Your Cluster

Running an agent in your cluster should not mean opening it to the internet. AURA reaches Slack over an outbound socket, so the cluster stays locked down.

Jeff Vogt connects an AURA deployment running in Kubernetes to Slack using AURA's direct Slack integration. The setup is a Slack app with an app token and a bot token, plus a few lines added to the deployment's configuration. The Kubernetes MCP server is already deployed and connected to AURA before the video starts.

The cluster needs no public URL and no inbound firewall rule.

From Slack, Jeff asks about the cluster. AURA reports that the backend service is unhealthy and stuck in ImagePullBackOff, and identifies the cause: the deployment specifies a version number that does not exist in the image repository. AURA reports the cause and does not change the deployment. No fix is applied on camera.

Slack app setup: app token and bot token

0:00 AURA now supports direct Slack integration, and it only takes a few lines of configuration to get deployed.

Here's what you do. First, follow this guide to get your integration set up in Slack. You'll need to provision an app token and a bot token for the integration.

Connect AURA to Slack with no public URL

0:18 I currently have AURA deployed in my Kubernetes cluster, and I've deployed the Kubernetes MCP and connected it to AURA. All I need to do now is modify my deployment to connect to Slack.

No public URL or inbound firewall rule is needed. AURA reaches Slack using an outbound socket, so your cluster stays locked down.

Ask AURA about the cluster from Slack

0:39 Now that it's running in our deployment, I can go into Slack and ask it questions about my cluster.

AURA found that my backend service is unhealthy. It's trying to deploy, but it's stuck in ImagePullBackOff. AURA identified that I specified a version number which doesn't exist in my image repository.

Troubleshooting without manual investigation

0:59 I no longer need to do manual investigations directly on the cluster or parse long logs to troubleshoot deployment issues. It's as simple as asking a question.

AURA is a fully open-source execution harness designed to safely use agents for SRE work. Find us on GitHub at mezmo/aura.
